Debate: Students Against Coke vs Coca-ColaLink:
Check out audio from the debate here: http://columbus.indymedia.org/node/13489 CONTACT: osustudentsagainstcoke@gmail.com WEBSITE: http://sac.osu.edu Want to help with the campaign? Meetings are on Thursdays at 7:30pm in Hagerty Hall Room 0056. ----- For more information, check out part-one of Mark Thomas' five-part video dispatch on Coke's unethical business practices: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5JXmDApzp4 ----- The issue against Coca-Cola is simple: FACT: Coca-Cola has does nothing to stop paramilitary groups from murdering and threating Coca-Cola union workers and their family members in Colombia. http://killercoke.org/report.htm FACT: Coca-Cola depletes already scarce water resources for farmers in India. http://www.pbs.org/now/transcript/transcript_shiva.html FACT: Coca-Cola deliberately allows children to work in their sugar cane fields in El Salvador. Child labor is illegal in these fields. http://www.hrw.org/children/labor/ elsalvador/ FACT: Coca-Cola gives toxic waste as fertilizer to local farmers, a BBC study has found. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3096893.stm FACT: Coca-Cola sells products with poison (DDT) in India. http://www.indiaresource.org/campaigns/coke/2004/coketwist.h... P.S. Audio Producer's Comment: I was NOT allowed--per Coke's contract for the debate--to record video at this event. They would, however, allow me to record audio only--lens cap on, plain view, camera pointed away from stage. I saw no point in covertly recording video when I could overtly record audio so... That is why there is only audio. Sorry for not editing out the "intermission" silence but we wanted to get this up ASAP. That said, I *DID* get video images of the Coke reps and the crowd after the event, and I conducted a short interview with a SAC member, which will be posted soon. -rhetoric, Columbus Indymedia volunteer |
