Democratization Of The Akron Ohio Library System

Issues of Akron Library Owners: The People of Akron Ohio
1
To facilitate a doubling of computers,
2 the availability of headphones for anyone upon request,
3 scanners,
4 an end to the loss of privacy in computer work (Canton, Hudson, Stow, Peninsula and many other libraries do not require name log in on computers,
5 computers available in quiet rooms so that loud conversation,
gumcracking and other noise be diminished
6  clients' options
to use recycled paper, letterhead paper in printing,
7 library support of reduction of global heating through the use
of recycled paper (with cotton paper available upon request for
  a price)
8  support of local recycled paper companies at library branches
(the current company being used is owned in Canada)
9 a library board which reflects the majority of Akronites
in terms of peace and other political beliefs, (e.g. Pam Fessler,
then Pentagon reporter for NPR, was brought in to promote
the Afghan and Iraq wars)
10.  the option
of Firefox (available in many other libraries) as an
alternative to the highly hackable Internet Explorer which
records every keystroke,
11. a lost book or video search
announcement which goes to all branches,
12. firewalls to
prevent current government slowdown of peace, environment,
and animal rights websites,
13. more time on computers (originally 8 hours a day was reduced to 3 hours, then 2.
14  an end to the annoying time reminder popups which occur
several times an hour,
15 a generation of money through
a   nonpurchase of dozens of prowar films such as Charlie Wilson's War and The Kiterunner, etc.
b. end to purchase of newspapers and magazines with a prowar editorial
and reporting bias
16. Free tables rather than dumpster destruction for books
which do not sell at library book sales.  Free tables for
   patron offerings.

***

Thank you to the library for ending the British filter which
blocked many peace, environment, women's rights, animal rights
and other sites and for reduction of the noise in many branches.

Ameritech, then SBC, now AT&T gave 1 million dollars to the ASPCL.
In return, an end to the freenet occurred.
