Rally for Health Care For All

Columbus, Ohio (cbusimc) - On Saturday May 6th, A rally was held at the state house downtown in favor of health care for all. The rally was organized because many feel that the people of Ohio are not recieving sufficient health insurance, stating that over "1.3 million ohioians lack health care insurance.." and "..millions more...have limited coverage" making them "..one serious illness or injury away from bankruptcy."

The rally held a large list of speakers, including Noel Beasley of UNITE-HERE, Barbara Baylor, Minister for Health and Wellness Programs and Michael Ehlert of the American Medical Student Association, to name a few of the speakers among the scores of businesses and organizations that endorsed this issue and feel it needs to be brought to the attention of the public.

The rally attracted around 500 people that felt that "ohioians deserve better" than the current health insurance programs offered today. Also among the speakers were a number of politicians each speaking words in favor of the rally's purpose, notably the Democratic party's Dennis Kucinich and Tim Kettler, owner of Action Septic Service and running as the Green Party candidate for Secretary of State.

Though insurance exists in the state, the Single-Payer Action Network of Ohio or SPAN Ohio hopes to cut out the over 1500 private health insurance companies that act as "middle men" who "..(rake) in profits for its stockholders..each with its own expensive bureaucracy and complicated policies.

As for answers, SPAN offers an answer through a single payer program that uses "..one fund, administered by a non-profit government agency" which would be held "accountable to the public" much like how Medicare is offered now. For more information, please visit www.spanohio.org
