Re-Imagining Economics Summit

Description:

What's wrong with the economy? Even the experts who developed the complex financial instruments, and the obscure terminology designed to keep us from understanding the financial system, seem to have lost track of it all. Meanwhile, millions of Americans are losing their homes, their jobs, or both. And now, after years of economic war against working people through outsourcing, declining wages, mounting debt, and cuts to social services, we're being asked to pay for the careless actions of the banking industry through our tax dollars.

Why does the government only seem to work on behalf of the wealthy? Will the government bailout of the banking industry ameliorate or deepen the crisis? And how can we maintain the integrity of our communities and take control of our economic futures?

Come join us for a day of presentations and discussion, devoted to understanding the present economic crisis and how it affects and will affect our community in Arawak City (C-bus). We'll be discussing what we can do to support each other, and in doing so how we can move towards a more equitable, cooperative, and sustainable economy.

We'll be kicking off bright and early at 9:30am with a movie, followed by discussion and presentations.

Presentation topics include:

The Culture of Economics and Change
Greed and the Free Market
The Practice and Principle of the Commons
Punk Culture, Dropping out and Mutual Aid
and
Cooperative Workplaces and Self-Management

Some food will be provided, but we encourage you to bring more if you're able!
