A Radical Perspective on the Economic Crisis with Dr. Fadhel Kaboub

What are the real causes of the economic crisis? What is the likely effect of the stimulus package? What are the banks doing with the bailout money, and what does all of this mean for me?

Economist Dr. Fadhel Kaboub will be coming to Columbus to talk about the causes behind the economic crisis and provide a critical analysis of the government bailouts and the stimulus package. He'll talk about what's really happening on Wall Street, and the kind of stimulus that is needed to have a lasting effect on the lives of working people. Come to learn about the real roots of the crisis and what needs to be done to overcome it.

Fadhel Kaboub is an assistant professor of economics at Denison University (Granville, OH) and a research associate at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College (New York). He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Dr. Kaboub's research interests include macro and monetary economics, financial instability, full employment policies, and economic development. Before returning to Denison University in 2008, Dr. Kaboub served as the director of the Wall Street Semester Program at Drew University (Madison, NJ), and taught at Bard College at Simon's Rock (Great Barrington, MA), and the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He has published in the Journal of Economic Issues, Financial Times, Review of Radical Political Economics, Review of Social Economy, Social Science Journal, and International Labour Review, among other professional publications. Dr. Kaboub is a founding member of Economists for Full Employment, and currently serves on the editorial board the Review of Radical Political Economics and is the book review editor of the Heterodox Economics Newsletter.

A Democratic Socialist Perspective on the Current Economic Crisis.

Rudy H. Fichtenbaum, Professor of Economics at Wright State University, will talk about the origins of the current economic crisis. The prevalent view among mainstream economists is that the current crisis stems from regulatory failure and other mistakes. Dr. Fichtenbaum will argue that this type of crisis is endemic to capitalism. He will also address the bailout for banks and the current debate over the stimulus package now being considered in Congress and a progressive plan for dealing with the crisis.
